Deep Fried Apple Pecan Pies

Original Recipe Serves 12

INGREDIENTS

12 Mission® 12" Stretched Style Flour Tortillas (10330)  
1/2 cup Golden Raisins  
3/4 cup  Sugar  
3/4 cup Golden Brown Sugar , packed 
3 Tbsp. All Purpose Flour  
2 Tbsp.  Lemon Juice  
1 tsp.  Lemon Zest  
1 tsp. Ground Cinnamon  
1/8 tsp.  Nutmeg  
2 lbs. Golden Delicious Apples , peeled, cored and thinly sliced 
3 Tbsp.  Butter  
1/2 cup  Pecans , chopped and toasted 
3 Tbsp.  Flour  
3 Tbsp.  Water  

DIRECTIONS

1.) Place raisins in a small saucepan and cover with water. Place pan over high heat and bring to a boil. Boil for one minute. Remove from heat. Allow raisins to rest for one hour, until plump.

2.) Combine all ingredients except butter and pecans in a large bowl. Toss gently to combine. Melt half the amount of butter in a large saucepan over medium high heat. Add half of the apple mixture and sauté until softened, about 5 minutes. Repeat procedure with remaining apple mixture. Remove from heat and set aside.

3.) Combine flour and water in a small bowl to form a thick paste. Set aside.

4.) Heat Mission® flour tortillas as directed. Place 1/2 cup apple mixture at bottom end of tortilla, leaving a 1" border. Fold in tortilla from sides, then fold forward. Securely seal the end of the tortilla with the flour paste. Repeat with remaining tortillas.

5.) Place vegetable oil in saucepan or deep fryer. Heat to 375º F. Fry the pies until golden brown. Place on paper towel lined surface. Sprinkle with powdered sugar and serve immediately.

6.) TIP: Chocolate chips may be added to apple mixture (1/4 cup).
